Uncle Wally
I'm surprised that no-one has brought this topic up already.  I'm not a rugby union fan (I did watch a Wallabies in its entirety on TV  once - I didn't quite get it), but this is truly bad news for our state's rugby  fraternity.  For SANZAR to increase the number of clubs in its Super Rugby competition, find out there are then too many  clubs for it to logistically work and then cull a couple of established clubs is extremely poor form.  What's more, the Force was getting more fans through their gates than what the Melbourne Rebels have been, though I'm not suggesting that the Rebels should be culled either.

Western Force was probably the best thing that has ever happened to rugby in Western Australia and apparently did wonders in promoting and developing the code here.  I heard that that was one of the conditions for the club being established here in the first place, and that the Force fulfilled its side of the bargain.

What a kick in the teeth for all concerned.  I feel for the fans, players and rugby administrators.  I urge them all to not go down without a fight.

Uncle, I didn't raise the issue as it appears most here their passion is mostly for the AFL and the Dockers. But great you bring it up.
I wonder just how much trust Western Australians can ever have in any game that bears the name Rugby, be it League or Union.
When the big boys played with their toys and boasted mine is bigger than yours and destroyed the Western Reds in RL, I thought that treachery could not get any worse. But I have now found out it can.
What the SANZAR has done to Union here in WA is now far worse than what was done to the Reds all those years ago.
Like you I am no fan of either code, but do like to see any Western Australian side do well in any sport. All that is bar one club.
There should not be a person in WA who should go to any game that has any semblance to the game Rugby, be it Union or RL.

A curse on them all who run the stupid sport.

Great to see that the Labor government are prepared to go all the way and take RU to the cleaners if the Force fail to get a reprieve. He has stated he is prepared to sue for the $100 ml.This is part of the rebuild of nib and also money used to help Force build their facilities.
I, for one hope the government do take them to the cleaners.

Twiggy is a pretty good sponsor to have in your corner.

Hope they can overturn the decision. It seems to be a very unfair one.

With the original decision upheld and Western Force now out of the competition, I'm not surprised that Twiggy is not going to give up on the team. It shouldn't come as a surprise that he is going rogue and forming a new competition for the players.

Good on him. Twiggy is not a man who gives up easily and I'm sure the players see him as the Messiah. You can see the gratitude on their faces.

Good luck to everyone involved. I believe there will be around six teams and I hope it is a roaring success.

I am sure we have not heard the last of this saga.
It seems that it was all done behind closed doors.

As I said on the initial thread on this topic, I'm no rugby fan, but it was great to see Western Force up and running again in front of a full house at Perth Oval last Friday.  Well done to Andrew Forrest for making it happen.  I'm sure the local rugby fraternity will be eternally grateful to you.  It would be good to see this fledgling competition upstage the Super Rugby after treating the Force the way that they did.  Wishing them all the best.
