Went to the Derby yesterday without any real thought of winning, but hopeful that we would perform well.
What amazed me was the amount of yellow there was in the crowd. This was a game for the Freo faithful to get out and take all tickets, but sadly it didn't happen.I just hope that the members were not scalping their prized possessions for money.
Even Simon Garlick in an on ground interview before the game said, it will be good to play in front of close to 29,000 Purple supporters. How wrong that was.
With the oval; staff being included, there was just over 2,000 at the game.I would be surprised if there wan't at least 10,000 in yellow there.
Amazing.
The game went as expected I would think. The Eagle just to big strong and experienced.... again. Our back line was under constant pressure, and it was only a matter of time before they Eagles broke down the wall that was set up by Fremantle.A wall mind you made up of midgets. But full marks to them all. They gave it their best until it had to break.
A few of the favourite players went missing, and left a fair bit to the younger brigade.Hard to be critical of David Mundy after everything he has given the club. But he was quiet all day.Lachie Schultz, has been good most games, but had a bad one yesterday.Tucker was another who had an ordinary day.
One bright light was the way Michael Frederick took to the game.He was very clean most of the time, and his goal was all class. In the right spot.
A couple of the much maligned players in Cerra and Brayshaw once again stood up and worked their butts off.But all to no avail.
It was great to see Longmuir give Caleb Serong the task of playing on Tim Kelly. The kid will get plenty from that experience.
Our goal kicking left a lot to be desired. The Taberner brain fade in the first quarter. Then two missed shot in the last took the wind out of the sails.Lobb and Taberner missing from almost directly in front, 30 metres out.
Another that was costly was just before 1/4 time.A rolling mess in Eagles forward line.A minute of garbage football and umpiring. There could or should have been at least six frees paid, either way.Or the umpire/s should have balled it up.Eventually they did ball t up.Then out of the blue, they plucked a soft soft free from a ruck infringement.
I am wondering just when the football gods will look favourably at us injury wise. All our tall, big backmen are out injured.Pearce, Hamling & Logue are out for long periods.Maybe the first two for the rest of the season.
Hard to hold the likes of Kennedy,Darling and Allen for a full game with them out.
But we now just have to regroup and hope for a better performance next round against Geelong.
Ten on the trot, not exactly ideal, but maybe lucky that they have no chance of making it 11 this year.

Yes it’s baffling how so many Eagle fans managed to get tickets to the game, and there I was expecting only a sea of purple in the stands.  They can’t all have become new Docker members surely, so I’m not sure what has happened there.

It was good to see Fredericks kick his first AFL goal.  That was a highlight in an otherwise forgettable game.  Ryan worked hard down back, but our defence was so undermanned, it was pretty hard to watch at times.  Cerra and Bradshaw contributed well.  If a couple of those easy shots from Tabs and Lobb had resulted in goals, we may not have lost our momentum.

For me though, it was more a case of too many top players sitting on the sidelines with injuries.  The team lacked balance, and the inexperience of over half of our side was blatantly obvious.

I was also surprised at there only being 25000 obviously a lot of members must of given their tickets in as there sure were a lot of the other mob there.
For me the game lacked any real passion and grunt that you normally get in a Derby it was very lacklustre.
I agree that a few went mia this week but all did try and never gave up,the biggest problem I  saw was the standard of skills got worse as the game went on and the whole shape the team was trying to hold together just fell apart especially the complete lack of picking a player up and still insisting on marking space that might work against a team that can’t kick but against a well oiled machine like a yellas it’s just dumb football.
Saying that though if Lobb and Tabs had converted those two chances at the start of the last quarter who knows Freo might of had a chance to cause another upset but they didn’t so it’s another loss.

Yes, where did all those Eagles fans come from?

As usual, there were some strange umpiring decisions (can we please have one derby without Margetts on the umpires' roster?  He's worth three goals for the Eagles every time), but it doesn't all come down to that of course.
Some promising signs were shown from some of our younger players and at least Fremantle put 3 more goals on the board than they did in the last derby.

The 16 minute quarters seemed to drag out to the normal length with a substantial amount of time-on.  I think this came down to the TV broadcaster.  There was a lot of down time before centre bounces.  Players and umpires were all in position waiting patiently for the okay from Channel 7.  Did 7 put two ads on after each goal?
I found it a little frustrating.  "Get on with it" I yelled a couple of times.  It just shows how much power he broadcasters have.

I don't have too much to say about the derby, with our top players  out I couldn't see us getting up
Very pleased for Fredericks to kick his first goal, the first of many I think.
As for so many eagle fans being there I know that quite a few join the dockers so they can go to both derbies but there did seem to be a lot of them.
Uncle,,,,,, We  had better get used to Margetts as there is every chance he will umpire most of our games, yes he is worse when we play the eagles
but his dislike for the dockers carries over to any team we are playing.
He would be without a doubt the most hated umpire going around but we are helpless to do anything to stop him .

Does anyone else question our medicos with the amount of injuries to our top players.?
If nothing changes I think the day will come when there are so many injured we wont be able to field a side.

TT, the crowd of 30,000 they spoke of also has the staff employed on the night included.I think I saw where they said that there was 2,000 staff.Which made it 27,300. So 1,700 shy of capacity for the night.
But still considered a sell out.

We may struggle to get anywhere near that number on Monday night.  Firstly, it’s a week night, there’s probably not going to be more than one or two changes to the side (no-one coming off the injury list), rain is forecast, and Margetts will be umpiring once again.  Talk about disincentives to watch it live.

Also, the numbers will also be low because unlike Collingwood, there isn’t a large Geelong fan base in Perth.

It's not just the medicos in Question, what about the recruiters, once again a number of dudds have been recruited.
Why is it our medicos couldn't get Harley up and about, yet he's playing with Melbourne.
I'm praying this will be Taberner's last season with Freo, numpty through and through.

Which duds did we draft this year Vandy. Some of those that we are waiting for to show us something, have been at the club a couple of years.Injury has crippled their chances so far.But we will see them later this season. We will see all of our kids I reckon.
I will agree to disagree with you re Taberner.

With all due respect Anchors, Taberner isn't exactly ripping games apart. He has gotten better at looking for the ball, but he still can't kick it straight to often.

Frosty, third highest contested mark in the competition.
Yes his kicking has not been the best, but at least he is getting the ball to have shots on goal.
