There are a few players who will be under the gun to perform this season. We have recruited well the last few years and some who were walk up starts could be in trouble if they don't perform early, and well.
One I see in that position is Connor Blakely. He had a very disappointing end to 2019.His form was very ordinary.
He began this year with a group of players who may have been under pressure to perform early, but came back under done.
Also there are the rumours doing the rounds about things that happened away from the club.
I was totally unimpressed by his performance against Carlton and I believe that there are a few who have gone past him for a spot, be it in the back line or the mid field.
He appears slow, not that he was ever quick.but looked to be labouring on the weekend.
His disposal was all over the place as well.
Am I being too harsh, or do others see it the same way as I do?

I think it’s a bit early to call it anchor.  I notice that Connor has been copping some pretty harsh criticism on a few of the other footy sites.  I agree, it certainly wasn’t one of his best games on Saturday, and I’m sure he too, would be disappointed with his performance.  The good news is that there’s plenty of time to get himself in better shape and work on his game.  I’ve always rated Connor and I think he will lift.  Although everyone is pretty excited about the new talent that has come into the club, it’s inexperienced talent, which makes more experienced players like Connor all that more valuable to us in the short term.  I’m sure Connor realises this and will get it together.  He wasn’t alone as Matera was another one who I suspect would be disappointed in how he played as well.

PH, I have not based my post on the game against the Blues. He was very ordinary during 2019, when he was expected to shine.
He looked out of sorts before Christmas and was in a group that was away from the main group.

Also there was the rumour going around, and one wonders if this has had an effect on his performance and whether he may be on the outer with the other players.
Remember that they club tried to trade him at seasons end.

To be fair hasn’t Connor had  a lot of injury problems not just last year but on and off most of his short career maybe I’m looking through rose coloured glasses.
If the rumours are correct then maybe he is struggling to get the playing groups respect and if that’s the case then I would say his confidence is shot.

Vandy, I know that there was some issue a while back. The thought was somebody hacked the site,(correct me if I am wrong),but all seems good now from my end.
All that happening I think has led to the new format.

Anchors, can you give a link to the website home page as I still can't get on it, even after logging out. Thanks.
I am able to get to the " Talking Dockers " page, I'll leave it at that.

Has anybody heard how both Blakely and Matera went on the weekend playing for Peel?

I can comment on Blakely anchor.  Connor went very well indeed, and put in a full game.  According to JLo, the reason both Connor and Brandon played for Peel was so that they would have more time on the field, which wouldn’t happen in the Marsh series.

JLo made a comment about that, and it certainly sounded like both Brandon and Connor will be in the mix for Round 1.

PH,I think that Matera may have work cut out, as Schultz has been very good so far.For me he looks more urgent for a spot than Matera.
But time will tell.

Have to agree anchor.  I cannot see how JLo and the selection committee could possibly overlook Lachie for Round 1.  As you say, he has played very well in both games and has shown the sort of urgency you want to see from players vying for positions.

From memory, Brandon was a bit of a slow starter last season as well, so he may take a few more weeks to get himself into gear.  When he was firing though, he was terrific.
