Well done to the Toaster for being granted the good Friday night game.

It seems the AFL had to give them the recognition they earned after winning the premiership.
I know it will upset some here, but their performances deserve some notice.Prefer to see them than Carlton , though they will play the Thursday night game.
We as a team have to aspire to be able to get these prestige games.Only success will bring that to our club.

Not a very popular view and leading on from what you are saying about WC

Don't get me wrong I hate them

BUT

I was thinking the other day it has served Fremantle over the years that WC has been a strong financial club.  If WC had not been over the years the AFL would have run all over WA football more than it does.  They would have pushed both clubs into obscurity.

That extends to the supporter base of both clubs. Collectively 135 members.

I could be wrong, it was just a fleeting thought.

The Eagles’ performances never go unnoticed anchor.

It’s rammed down our throats by the media every waking moment.

Would personally love to see them lose this one, but seeing as its Port Adelaide that they will play, I think you can back it in now that the Eagles will win.

I hate their club and their smug supporters with a passion.

Lets not forget that from the very first day , they had the choice of the best players in the state.
The strength was there, throw in all the benefits and money that was sent their way to kick start them it was a dream run.
Move it along a few years and the Vics began to think maybe they are getting too strong , we better introduce a second team in WA to weaken them.
Enter the dockers, but the difference being no hand outs , nothing. So the struggle began to get any form of recognition .
It is not much better even today, but I hope and pray in the not too distant future we rise from the ashes and show every one  how good we have become, doing it the hard way without the hand outs.

Just sheer guts.

Yes Docker Fay, they certainly  did have the best players in the state.  It must also be noted that there was a strong Fremantle presence in their squad in those formative years.  Without the the strong contribution  of their recruits from East Fremantle and South Fremantle, they wouldn't have got as far as they did so quickly.  If our club had been established simultaneously and we had the port clubs as our main feeder, I'm sure Fremantle would have had the upper hand over West Coast.

Whether I would have supported Fremantle  in that situation however, I'm not so sure.  The main reason why I detest the Eagles so much is the resentment I had for destroying the local league which I was so passionate about.   Other reasons for not supporting them was seeing the club being set up more as a corporation than a football club, the American moniker that they adopted (I never say I live on the West Coast - I live in Perth) and once they got started - well their main followers.  Suddenly people who had  never bothered attending a WAFL match started jumping on the Eagles band wagon, which to me said that they weren't true football fans at all.

When the Dockers were established, I just saw it as part of a natural progression to join them.  I had followed East Fremantle for a number of years, and, well,  I just had to join this club to spite the Eagles.

I totally agree with you both about the Toaster and their formation..We were promised the same concessions that they got, but once they became successful, the AFL dropped almost all the concessions. That was after we had had them granted to us.
Again totally agree re the forming of the FFC.We were the team , club, that neither the AFL or the WAFC, really wanted. We were and still are the poor relations of both organisations.
And Wally you are right about so many non football people joing the Toasters just to be seen.Similar to the Wildcats in basket ball. And some of those who joined in 1987, still know JS about our game.
I always say when confronted by alleged football followers of other clubs who talk about us with derision, that we are the only club in the AFL who have never, ever had their hand out for money. We have survived the attacks from The Fat Man and his Boy Wonder Addy. and still came out with our heads high. The mob up the road were bailed out to the tune of between 12 and 15 million by the State Government.Has it been paid back!!!!! Who knows.
But all that aside, the Toaster have earned the right to some big Friday night games after their stellar year.I like most supporters thought they would have had the bottom fall out of them. But they went the other way.
But make no mistake, I am still a Yella detester.
