anchorman

It seems that because Elani Glouftsis, couldn't bounce the ball on Sunday, she is a bad umpire.In case you hadn't realised, she is the first female central umpire to do an AFL game.

From the little I saw of the Toasters V Bombers, she was as good as the male versions.
If she is a good decision maker, then that is far more important than not being able to bounce the ball.If it means we lose better quality umpires because of the bounce, remove the bounce from the game.

Let's face it there are a lot of male umpires who can't bounce the ball.
Thoughts on this one!

2x25=Seinor&Michael.

29 = 353.

Improver one,Taylin Duman.

Improver two, Brett Bewley.
Smokey, Tobe Watson.

Not only do i agree that she did a good job anchor,there should be more of them.
She handled the game well,  you can imagine the nerves she would have felt, that goes for Male umpires in their first game as well.  We are going into our wet month's which calls for a ball up at centre bounce.
Just a few month's back the AFL said that they had a few umpires in the wings but because they couldn't bounce the ball well  they didn't get a chance.  They even asked the question should the ball be tossed up or bounced at the centre.   I think the toss is better, as the bounce can fly off  in a different direction as it hits the ground.
No one finds a problem with the throw up during the game.

I didn't see the game so I don't know.

From what I have heard the centre turf was new and soft, and there were a couple of rubbish bounces by a male umpire as well. They indicated that there were no bounces during the Fremantle game because of the conditions, so if there was a soft surface they could have made that decision not to bounce across the board for that game. That is what they showed on Fox Footy.

However, Hardy (I think it was) on 6PR went off in another direction and said she wasn't able to bounce and a couple of her decisions were not great. And basically said she was rubbish.

I can imagine how much pressure and embarrassment she would have felt at the time and now. She didn't bounce in the second quarter. Having to hold the flame for women field umpires and having a bad first game, that would be hard.

If the rules are the ball is to be bounced apart from if an umpire is injured or the conditions do not favour a bounce then she needs to bounce.

But!

They didn't cut her any slack did they?  They knew the centre was new and soft and it would be hard to bounce but they scheduled her to that game anyway. Then they decided despite of the surface to bounce the ball, possibly because if they decided not to, it would have been perceived they did that because she was a women. Then even though she had an issue and another umpire did as well they still decided collectively to bounce.

I think she needs to be given the benefit of doubt in this instance. If she is rubbish and can't bounce then she won't be umpiring for long.

What we don't need though is comments like these

Cervantes Tiger Sharks president Dale Simmons used Facebook on Sunday to slam decisions made by Eleni Glouftsis in West Coast’s loss to Essendon, calling her a “dopey mole (sic)” and a “stupid b....”.

Really though, I am not sure why media would even bother reporting what a country coach said. Not even a big country town at that.

Appalling article.  The man is a circus clown if you can call him that.

I really hope the AFL continue with women officiating games not just to spite this fool but to raise the standard of umpiring.
She did at the very least a reasonable job.  One thing that was noticeable was the respect the players showed her;  No arguing, no swearing and no clear abuse to other players when she was in earshot. ( From what we could make out on TV. )

This foolish club president has given away his misguided passion for eagles which says a lot in itself not to mention his poor spelling and grammar.

You have to also shake your head at the way the West author has slipped in the inference  that this article although written by him is not his own opinion.  In fact he has tried to move it back one person by making it a hearsay article.

A mole ay ?  he's the subterranean mammal.

I am thinking Dale Simmons is an Eagles supporter, yep!.

Also thinking if you are going to go on facebook rants, you probably don't want to list your mobile number on the internet, so people can call you up and tell you what they think of you.

I could give him a call and discuss his team being a bunch of wimps.

Not that I would do that. Just sayin...
