Cannot believe that the AFL have written to James Hird to invite him to present the Norm Smith Medal at this year's GF. What's more, according to the AFL website, Hird has told the Herald Sun that he will accept the offer.

You have got to be kidding me. I don't care that the AFL is seemingly following their tradition of inviting former medal recipients to present the medal, Hird is one player who does not DESERVE to be front and centre in any future AFL event.

Try asking his ex-players who suffered because of the club's antics whether they would like to see Hird welcomed back into the AFL family.

I think this "come home all is forgiven" stunt will backfire spectacularly for the AFL.

I think it is a disgrace to invite Hird to hand out the medal.   The damage he has done to the players under him.   The lives he has messed up  and thought no one could touch him.
I think the crowd  would probably boo him.
There must be someone more worthy to hand out the medal you would think,[frown] because they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel asking him.

I agree that Hird should not have been asked to present anything, ever to any other player. Besides all the players who would be upset, can you just imagine what Jobe Watson must be thinking??  In the same year he had to give back his Brownlow Medal, Hird is invited to present another medal on GF day. What a crock!!!

A total disaster if it happens.It will be worse than Meat loaf,either last weeks meat loaf or the alleged singing type.
How can the AFL possibly kowtower to him and make it an "honour" for him.
A total load of garbage.

2x25=Seinor&Michael.

29 = 353.

Improver one,Taylin Duman.

Improver two, Brett Bewley.
Smokey, Tobe Watson.

You have quite a way with words anchor, take your pick, one is as bad as the other.
Just hope there will be a backlash from the public and he doesn't want to do it.

And to think that Gillon Mclachlan believes Hird won't be booed. The man is in lala land.

Spare a thought for the poor bugger who wins the Norm Smith Medal. He will have his moment of glory tarnished just by the presence of Hird to say nothing of him having to listen to boos from the crowd instead of cheers as Hird presents the medal.

The focus of the presentation should be squarely on the player, not bloody Hird.

Of course, Hird wouldn't see it that way. The man lacks total insight into the effect his actions, his presence and his influence, have on other people.

Just ask the Essendon players caught up in the scandal.
