Though nothing to play for now, I think we can still discuss what happened on Saturday against Essendon.
We basically blew the game in the first quarter. We gave them a four goal start, but then kicked 9 goals to their 5. We had the chance to win the game, but blew it with some sloppy play late.Brayshaw had two chances in the last quarter but couldn't convert. But I am not laying the blame on his shoulders.I thought up to half time he was far and away our best player.
Our back were all at odds with each other early. They couldn't get the game plan together. But after quarter time they began to gel,.Believe in each other and then we played better. All contributes well after the first quarter.
Sam Sturt look like a real beauty and certainly didn't look out of place in among the big boys. His composure was great. His kicking was superb and his want to be in the game was first class.A star of the future for us.
At times during the game, every one played their role. Some more than others.I thought that Bewley was good. His want to be part of the game, was like Sturts. He butchered the ball a few times but was good.
Lobb after going onto the ball was very good.Taking many marks, mostly contested as well.Be great when we can use him as a stationary forward without moving him into the ruck.
I thought that McCarthy did well enough , if there was a game this week, to hold his place as a wingman.
If a game was played this week, I think a couple might be under pressure, but wouldn't see any changes.
I listened to Longmuirs after the game presser. He was very good.He handled it like a veteran. He has clear plans as to what he expects from all the side.Called it as he saw it.Showed he was upset with the first quarter, but then gave credit where credit was due.
I didn't think there would be any more footy for 2020 , but what I saw was enough to think that we have a future side to be impressed with and give some sides a scare.
Look forward to further comments.
